This biyearly athletics competition is still a very young sporting event. as it was held for the first time in 2016. It offers European athletes who are under 18 years old in the year of the competition an excellent chance to compete with their peers. The idea behind the creation of this event was  to promote higher level competition among the more talented members of this age group and to provide a stepping stone to the U20 age group.

The Charles Grosberg National and University Stadium in Jerusalem’s Givat Ram, right next to the Israeli parliament ( Knesset), had to be renewed so that the young athletes would not have to compete on an old track.

The planning was done by the Moriah Jerusalem Development Company Ltd under the technical direction of Avi Stein. The installation of the 8,300 sqm was carried out by Carmel Professional Sports Surfaces Israel, together with IndfloorRomania under the supervision of CONICA .

A Successfull implementation of the project, despite difficult circumstances:

The renovation of the running tracks had become necessary because the sandwich track, which had been installed in 2017 by a competitor showed severe delamination, especially on lane 1. In addition, the grip on the asphalt surface was very damaged and offered poor adherance. The owner of the facility was therefore in favour of the complete demolition of lane 1 along with  the javelin track and the replacement of the remaining surface.

Grinding the surface proved to be the biggest problem during implementation. It was impossible, due to the poor quality of the previous surface. In addition, delivery delays and short deadlines made the work an extra bit difficult. Last but not least, a lot of problems with the bonding were discovered while cleaning the old surface. Despite the difficult conditions, our team was able to solve the problems one by one and successfully completed this project on time.

A European javelin record on new CONICA track!

This makes all of us at Conica  particularly proud: The 15-year-old Finn Topi Parviainen threw an incredible European record on our newly installed javelin track: The throw was measured at 84.52m,  surpassing the European U18 best throw of 83.94m set by world decathlon champion Niklas Kaul of Germany back in 2015. In addition, we saw several personal records broken and plenty of fast times from other athletes.

Beyond the many  successes, we were delighted to receive our World Athletics Class 2 certification for the CONIPUR SW running track system. The track  was first certified by World Athletics in 1999. Today, there are hundreds of thousands of square metres of CONIPUR SW tracks worldwide, eight of which are now certified as Class 1 and more than 60 as Class 2. The many testimonials show that CONIPUR SW meets the highest needs for both athletes and owners.
