World-Class Athletes Take Part in Prototyping the First Fribourg Track Lab, presented by LoRo-Sport Fribourg powered by Fribourg Sports Lab on a CONIPUR Vmax Track

CONICA is proud to announce support that the inaugural Fribourg Track Lab, which will take place on a CONIPUR Vmax track, designed to provide world-class athletes with an unparalleled performance surface. As the world’s leading high-performance track system, CONIPUR Vmax ensures that athletes can push their limits in this innovative and cutting-edge event. Supported by World Athletics and sanctioned by European Athletics and the Wanda Diamond League, the event will test new competition formats and approaches to fan engagement and broadcasting.
Fribourg Sports Lab and TEAMMATE are excited to host renowned Olympic and World-Class athletes at this groundbreaking event, which takes place on September 1, 2024, from 16.00 to 18.00 at the Saint Léonard University Stadium, Fribourg, Switzerland.
Athletes Confirmed:
The Fribourg Track Lab will feature some of the most decorated athletes from recent Olympic Games and World Championships:
- Alison Dos Santos, 400m Hurdles, bronze medalist in Paris 2024
- Rénelle Lamote, 800m, 5th in Paris 2024
- Eugene Omalla, 4×400 mixed, Olympic Champion Paris 2024
Additionally, the event will see a thrilling rematch of the men’s javelin final from Paris 2024, with Anderson Peters (bronze medalist) and Julius Yego (5th place) going head-to-head. In the women’s long jump, Alina Rotaru (3rd place, World Championships Budapest 2023) will compete against Milica Gardašević (European Games Champion Chorzów 2023), with both athletes jumping further than 6.90m.
Draw Night Ceremony as Warm-Up
The Fribourg Track Lab will innovate not only in competition formats but also in event structure. On the evening before the event, all athletes will gather at the Bletz (Café des Arcades) in Fribourg for a team draw night ceremony. This unique feature in athletics allows athletes to form short-lived teams to maximize their complementary strengths on the track. Lea Sprunger, director of Fribourg Track Lab, explains, “Athletes will actively contribute to the prototype by forming teams designed to be the most competitive and complementary during the competition.”
The event is open to the public, offering a rare chance to meet and interact with the athletes. Entry is free, and the event will be streamed live on Instagram and YouTube.

Tickets are now available at www.tracklab.ch. Covered seats are available for CHF 35.-, and standing places for CHF 10.-. Admission is free for anyone under 20 years old.
About Fribourg Track Lab
Fribourg Track Lab is a unique initiative that focuses on pioneering new formats and technologies in track and field. With the motto “This is not a meet, this is a lab,” the event features six teams led by captains competing across eight disciplines. Designed to enhance competition and demonstrate the future of athletics, the Track Lab will showcase women in the 100m hurdles, 800m, long jump, and pole vault, while men will compete in the 200m, 400m, steeple mile, and javelin throw.
