On concrete floors, this is 0%, i.e., full force of the impact must be &nbsp; absorbed by the user. The higher the shock absorption, the more force is absorbed by the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, the shock absorption represents the protective function of the sports floor in an uncontrolled fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High shock absorption reduces the risk of injury (in case of a fall), and reduces the stress on joints, muscles and ligaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So is a high shock absorption figure better?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not that simple: there are other factors to consider, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Age \/ weight of the (main users)<\/li><li>Sport (main use)<\/li><li>Use for training or competition<\/li><li>Use for other purposes (events)<\/li><li>Type of sports floor<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In sports halls, a distinction is made according to the type of sports floors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA3-1024x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA3-1024x450.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA3-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA3-768x338.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA3.jpg 1137w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24484\" width=\"361\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA4.jpg 514w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA4-300x263.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>point-elastic <\/strong>floor absorbs the impact forces like a shock absorber. This makes the floor ideal for children. The risk of injury is significantly reduced, because an impact is optimally absorbed with a low weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>area-elastic<\/strong> floor usually has higher shock absorption values. By distributing the impact force over a larger area, this type of floor is particularly suitable for adults, and is also gentle on the joints as well as being stable. It\u2019s also ideal for wheelchair sports and multi-purpose use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A higher shock absorption value is not necessarily better \u2013 this depends on the user and the type of use<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And how does it work outdoors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, too, specifications exist that are laid down in the standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"918\" height=\"596\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA5-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"24499\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/?attachment_id=24499\" class=\"wp-image-24499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA5-1.jpg 918w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA5-1-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/KA5-1-768x499.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 918px) 100vw, 918px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As these specifications also show \u2013 the decisive factor is the type use<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As WA writes in their \u201cTrack and Field Facilities Manual\u201d 2019 \u2013 Chapter 3 page 95<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The safety of athletes and their protection against injury in training and competition is of special significance for the requirements for the sports surface. It is recommended that training facility synthetic surfaces generally have higher shock absorption than competition facilities<\/em> .  Page 105<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Requirement The dynamic interaction between the athlete and the surface is significant to the performance and safety of the athlete. Therefore, the ability of the surface to reduce force (absorb energy) is important. The dynamic behaviour of athletics track surfaces is complex. Two of the major components of the interaction between an athlete and the surface are the deformation under load of the surface and the ability of the material to either absorb or give back the energy of impact of the foot. Biomechanical studies over many years have confirmed the complexity of the foot \/ surface &#8220;model&#8221; and have revealed the extent of the variation in loading and duration of load between not only different sports, but different athletics events. As has been explained elsewhere in this chapter, it is possible to formulate synthetic surfaces which favour, or are more suitable for, one type of event against another.
