A World-Class Sports Holiday. The Club La Santa in Lanzarote enjoys an international reputation as a sports resort and training camp. Every year numerous triathlon, running, cycling and swimming camps are held here with the most renowned trainers in the industry. Whether it’s swimming, cycling, dancing, triathlon or something completely different, Club La Santa offers the perfect programmes for sports enthusiasts of all levels and ages. Events and themed weeks take place throughout the year. Along with the extensive facilities, there are a comprehensive range of services and equipment, ranging from physiotherapists to bicycle mechanics. Club La Santa is the venue for international training camps at all levels. Events like the Volcano Triathlon, the International Club La Santa Duathlon, the Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote and the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote are known throughout the world. Many national teams also come to Club La Santa for their winter training. The quality of the facilities attracts both beginners and top international athletes to Lanzarote.
As one would expect, the management’s demands on the facilities’ equipment are high. When the athletics tracks were to be refurbished recently, only first-class materials were shortlisted, of course. In the end, the race was won by one of the most innovative systems on the market: CONIPUR Vmax.
CONIPUR VMAX
CONIPUR Vmax is a competitive athletics track for the high-performance segment. The was developed in close cooperation with the German Sport University Cologne and has been tested and accredited in accordance with IAAF specifications. The combination of an energy-reflecting base layer and a force-stabilising top layer offers a completely revolutionary running performance. The top layer ensures fast and controlled forward movement. The reduced energy requirement in the start and sprint phase enables athletes to achieve maximum running performance up to the finish line.
The defined air cells embedded in the base layer give the athlete the expended energy back after the compression. The system is characterised by an excellent structural integrity with low deformation. This reduces stress on the joints and ensures greater stability. The surface layer is also highly durable, giving the track maximum resistance and durability. This makes it suitable for multifunctional applications and events.
Spanish Premiere
The Lanzarote installation is the first Vmax athletics track on the Spanish market. The new surface was jointly designed by CONICA and the contractor OPSA (Obras y Pavimentos Especiales, S.A. – OPSA), with Torben Grangaard serving as the supervisor and external consultant to Club La Santa. The project covers a total area of 6,909 m2, divided into 4,899 m2 for the athletics track and 2,010 m2 for the jogging track.
The major technical challenge in this installation was combining two system variants: a 14 mm thick CONIPUR Vmax surface in the colour RAL 5015 for the athletics track and a 10 mm thick CONIPUR Vmax jogging surface in the colour RAL 5010 for the jogging track. There should not be any height differences between the two systems of different thicknesses – or a noticeable seam or edge. The CONICA specialists succeeded in doing this perfectly.
High-performance athletes from around the world can now be impressed by the superior properties of CONIPUR Vmax surfacing while they are training in Lanzarote.
