A Fusion of Architectural Vision and Technical Innovation: CONIPUR SW Track on the Rooftop of Horácká Arena Jihlava, Czechia
25. November 2025
The newly built Horácká Arena in Jihlava stands as a flagship of modern Czech sports architecture. Designed by the acclaimed studio ateliér Chybík + Krištof, the arena brings together cutting-edge design, multi-functionality and community value. While its interior is dedicated primarily to ice hockey and large-scale events, one of the project’s most remarkable features is found above the main structure: a fully functional sports surface installed directly on the stadium roof.
This rooftop area, covering 1 200 m², is equipped with the CONIPUR SW system by Conica AG, installed by JAHU-SPORT. The decision to place a sports surface on the roof demonstrates the ambition of both the designers and the system itself. It showcases how contemporary materials can support new architectural ideas and how sports infrastructure can become a dynamic, multi-layered element of the urban environment.

CONIPUR SW proved to be ideally suited for this challenging application. The system is a robust, two-layer polyurethane construction consisting of a 4 mm PUR wear coat applied on top of an elastic base layer made from recycled granules. Together, these components create a 14 mm water-impermeable sandwich system, certified by World Athletics, capable of withstanding the weather fluctuations and structural demands associated with rooftop installations. Its high durability, shock absorption and seamless surface ensure safe and comfortable movement, even in an exposed location such as this.

The system’s sustainability credentials also enrich the project. The recycled content of the elastic layer contributes to responsible material use, while the solvent-free installation method supports environmentally conscious construction practices. With a broad palette of 26 available colours, the architects had the freedom to shape the rooftop area so that it complements the overall aesthetic identity of the arena.
The result is an innovative extension of the building’s functionality. The rooftop sports area offers a resilient, low-maintenance and weather-resistant surface that can be used for various outdoor activities. It adds value to the arena by transforming a structural necessity into an active, community-focused element – a space where recreation, architecture and engineering meet.
Completed in 2025, the Horácká Arena project demonstrates how architectural ambition and advanced material technology can work hand in hand. By integrating CONIPUR SW at rooftop level, the project expands the possibilities of sports facility design and illustrates how CONICA systems support creative visions without compromising safety, performance or sustainability.
