CosmoCaixa asked our customer JARDINERIA BABILON to find a suitable surfacing solution for the path in the area to make it more comfortable for the wildlife and the  visitors. The existing concrete track was probably not the best fit. The path needed to be fully permeable, have a natural look and a provide a comfortable walking experience.

CONICA worked with JARDINERIA BABILON on different alternatives and supplied different product samples. The CONICA Rubber Mulch manufactured in our UK factory was selected to a thickness of 30mm and it was supplied by our distributor in Spain ALFREDO MESALLES and  installed during December 2021 by our experienced installer, PAVINADOR.

A blend of different rubber mulch colours was used to match the scenery of the rest of the  area and was bound with CONICA’s moisture curing binder CONIPUR 4020 manufactured in our plant in Schaffhausen (Switzerland).

Functionality and sustainability were achieved with a reasonable cost and the path looks  really natural, making the customer experience more enjoyable. CONICA materials formed the basis – literally – of this unique project.

Installing the project while the area of the  museum was open to visitors

PAVINADOR and JARDINERIA BABILON carried out the work whilst the area was open to visitors by completing it in phases, the project was completed in one week.

As the area is an indoor greenhouse it  was important to ensure that any chemicals used did  not impact the wildlife or the visitors. CONICA’s products are well known for the low level of volatiles during installation.

Next time you visit Barcelona you must  allocate a few hours to visit this magnificent museum and its extraordinary thematic exhibitions.

CONICA RUBBER MULCH

CONICA surfaces are known worldwide  for their use in top-level sport,  playground and leisure applications.

A combination of a moisture curing polyurethane binder and a colour coated rubber mulch was used in the project. The 30 mm thick, PUR-bonded  Mulch surface has an excellent water  permeability and offers a very natural  aspect with high quality and durability.  Thanks to the recycled nature of the  mulch, it offers a very good price/  performance ratio.

The 6 different colours allow a wide  variety of combinations, whether single  or multi-coloured.

In addition to the Flooded forest, the CosmoCaixa museum has a lot of interesting areas: an Antartida Base, a Planetarium, a Universe interactive space, the Micrarium for microscopic universe, the Geological Wall, the Math Lab and temporary expositions as the one dedicated to Nikola Tesla running now and until February 2022.
