A World Record Night on CONICA’s CONIPUR Vmax Track in Monaco
13. July 2026
Emmanuel Wanyonyi’s historic 1000m world record headlined an extraordinary evening of world-leading performances and meeting records at the 2026 Herculis EBS Diamond League Meeting.

The Stade Louis II once again provided the setting for an exceptional night of international athletics as the world’s leading athletes gathered in Monaco for the tenth meeting of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season.
The 40th edition of the prestigious Herculis EBS Meeting delivered one world record, two Diamond League records and eight meeting records, further strengthening Monaco’s reputation as one of the fastest and most exciting venues in global athletics.
Wanyonyi Makes History Over 1000 Metres
The performance of the evening came from Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
Competing in his first-ever 1000m race, the Olympic and world 800m champion produced a remarkable run of 2:11.83 to break one of athletics’ longest-standing world records.
Wanyonyi improved the previous mark of 2:11.96, set by fellow Kenyan Noah Ngeny in 1999, by 0.13 seconds. Behind him, Jake Wightman finished second in 2:12.77 to move to fifth on the world all-time list, while Djamel Sedjati placed third in 2:13.94.

World-Class Performances Across the Programme
Wanyonyi’s world record was the highlight of an evening filled with outstanding performances.
Julien Alfred stormed to victory in the women’s 200m in a world-leading 21.51. The Olympic 100m champion became the third-fastest woman in history over the distance and broke a Monaco meeting record that had stood since 1993.
Agnes Ngetich delivered another exceptional performance in the women’s 3000m. Her winning time of 8:08.95 was the third-fastest performance in history and significantly improved the previous Herculis meeting record.
In the field events, Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou produced a world-leading 8.61m in the men’s long jump, while Nina Kennedy cleared 4.95m in the women’s pole vault. Kennedy’s performance set new Australian and Oceanian records.
The records continued in the men’s 400m, where Botswana’s Collen Kebinatshipi ran 43.44 to establish a new Diamond League record and national record. Marileidy Paulino won the women’s 400m in a meeting record of 48.67, Masai Russell clocked 12.20 in the 100m hurdles and Mondo Duplantis cleared a meeting record of 6.07m in the pole vault.
Another World Record on CONIPUR Vmax
The athletes competed on the CONIPUR Vmax surface installed at Stade Louis II in 2020.
Developed for elite competition, the full-PUR system combines an energy-recovering base layer with a force-stabilising top layer, providing athletes with a stable and consistent surface across every phase of their performance.
Wanyonyi’s historic 1000m run is the fourth world record achieved on the current CONIPUR Vmax track in Monaco. It follows Joshua Cheptegei’s 5000m world record in 2020, Faith Kipyegon’s mile world record in 2023 and Jessica Hull’s 2000m world record in 2024.
These achievements continue a remarkable record of performances at one of athletics’ most iconic venues.
CONICA congratulates Emmanuel Wanyonyi and all the athletes who delivered exceptional performances in Monaco. We are proud that CONIPUR Vmax once again provided the stage for a historic evening of world-class athletics.
