Conica products are now completely phthalate-free
24. June 2022
We finally did it! Conica has been able to convert all its formulations to be completely phthalate-free. Whereas diisononyl phthalate was still being used as a plasticiser in smaller quantities in the past, a phthalate-free plasticiser is now in use, if at all, which has been specially developed for applications with close human contact. It is therefore the ideal solution when high safety and quality standards are required.
Phthalates are mainly used as plasticisers for plastics to make the material elastic. This is important for floor coverings, for example. Likewise, phthalates protect against brittleness and create high impact resistance. However, small amounts of phthalates can be released into the environment during processing. To further improve the health protection of processors as well as end-users, Conica has decided to completely eliminate phthalate-based plasticisers.
On the other hand, doing without something also means finding an equivalent or, ideally, even a better substitute. Conica has succeeded in doing this. The new phthalate-free plasticiser has been approved and certified by many authorities and institutes worldwide for sensitive applications due to its excellent toxicological profile and low migration rate. The manufacturer emphasises that the new product sets high standards in terms of sustainability. It had been examined and evaluated using the “Sustainable Solution Steering” method. Due to its safety and health features, the product makes an important contribution to sustainability in customers’ industrial plants and was therefore classified as an “Accelerator”.
With this step, Conica AG has once again underlined the fact that the development of products according to the latest technological and sustainable standards is at the centre of their endeavours.
